BFI : DISCOMFORT SEASON

The British Film Institute (BFI) in London approached me to create this disturbing and unsettling trailer for their season of Discomfort movies, which was screening classics like Eraserhead, Threads and Audition.

To achieve this distressed and unpleasant look we printed out the individual frames of the clips and drew over them / distressed them one at a time, using ink, kninves and old printers. After that, it’s just a case of scanning the frames back in, rebuilding the sequence, and doing some more fun compositing in After Effects to exaggarate the effect.
